Why test auditory reaction time?
Your brain processes sound slightly faster than a fully processed visual image, so auditory reaction times average around 250ms versus about 273ms for vision. Sprinters react to a starting gun, not a flag, for exactly this reason.
Tips
- Use headphones in a quiet room so the beep is unmistakable.
- Don't anticipate — the delay before the beep is randomized.
- Average several attempts; a single click is noisy.
